This isn’t just about Villa’s first team, they are also looking to strengthen their academy and sign for the future.
Romano reports that they have reached an agreement with Sunderland for 17-year-old striker Kotcher, who will be signed at Villa Park until 2027.
He said on X.com:
“It is understood that Aston Villa have now agreed to sign England U17 striker Mason Kotcher from Sunderland. The contract runs until June 2027 and will be signed at #AVFC today.
Sunderland will be compensated for the role they played in Kotcher’s development when he signs his first professional contract.
Kocher, who has two caps for England Under-17s, scored three goals in six appearances in the Under-18s Premier League last season, while also making one appearance in Premier League 2.
The 17-year-old has made 27 appearances for Sunderland’s Under-18s, scoring nine goals, and has also featured for the youth teams of Manchester United, Arsenal and Leeds United.
Villa lost Omari Kellyman from their academy earlier this summer, with the 18-year-old joining Chelsea for £19m.
It remains to be seen whether Unai Emery’s side will do anything further in the transfer window, with their final pre-season game against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday before a trip to West Ham United on August 17 .
