Barcelona consider asking for fee to let Frenkie de Jong leave, with further links to Manchester United

Barcelona will consider letting Frenkie de Jong leave the club this summer, but Manchester United are not currently being considered as his destination. The Dutch midfielder seemed unlikely to leave the club this summer due to an ankle injury, but sources in England were linked with him again earlier this week.
The issue, though, is likely to be his asking price rather than his health. Matteo Moreto explains to Fabrizio Romano’s Daily Briefing that Manchester United are currently focused not only on bringing in Paris Saint-Germain’s Manuel Ugarte but also on moving De Jong away Barcelona is still too expensive.
Barcelona could let De Jong leave for a fee in excess of €60 million, according to Moreto. However, €60 million will be a fixed fee and more will have to be added to the variables, regardless of De Jong’s high wages.
Due to the postponement of wages due to the epidemic, some sources believe that De Jong’s salary this season exceeds 30 million euros. Reports earlier this week suggested United were willing to do a deal for €3-40 million, which is clearly a far cry from Barcelona’s asking price. Nonetheless, any sale would be beneficial to Barcelona as they are keen to bring in reinforcements beyond Dani Olmo, namely Nico Willems.
