Bayern Munich Reduces Squad

Seeing academy graduates develop into first-team stars is a dream come true for any club. This is good news for Bayern Munich fans—the club’s sporting leadership is reportedly working hard to achieve this goal.

However, as detailed by Kicker reporter Frank Linkesch, this will require more discipline in squad planning. Excerpted from his report:

Bayern’s management wants to maintain a smaller squad than last season to give young players a chance. However, with the departures of Kingsley Coman and Kim Min-jae, two of the top candidates for sale, suitable replacements will need to be found.

So… um… is there still room for young players?

Jamal Musiala’s injury situation and the current depth at center back—Josip Stanišić and Hiroki Itō would fill in for Dayot Upamecano and Jonathan Tah (perhaps Tah) if Kim Min-jae leaves—are factors. However, reinforcements, both on the wing and in defense, could complicate matters.

However, for those following the game, four players are currently out, three of whom were first-team regulars last season.

All eyes are on Stuttgart and Nick Waltmade… but youngster Lennart Carr certainly looks to be carving out a spot on the wing.
