Everton show interest in former Arsenal defender

Under experienced manager David Moyes, the Toffees have stepped up their involvement in the transfer market in recent days.

Bayern Munich have agreed a fee for Moroccan left-back Adam Aznou, who is currently completing the final preparations for an £8 million move to Merseyside.

Everton have also been in talks with Lyon to bring in winger Malik Fofana, but he is not the only Les Gones star Everton is eyeing.

The Premier League side want former Arsenal player Maitland-Niles as an option this summer.

Moyes wants an option at right-back, and Maitland-Niles can play at right-back, while he can also play in midfield, which would be another advantage.

Lyon have recently been experiencing funding issues, and Maitland-Niles could be a realistic target for Everton.

Maitland-Niles has been with Lyon since leaving Arsenal in 2023 and has been getting regular playing time with the French national team.

Last season, Maitland-Niles made 44 appearances for Lyon in all competitions, mostly at right-back.

A move to Everton would see Maitland-Niles return to England, and if he is serious about returning to the Three Lions under Thomas Tuchel, he might consider this a good move.

Maitland-Niles has five England caps, with his debut coming in 2020.

The defender will turn 28 next month and has two years left on his contract with Lyon, so Lyon might think this summer is the best time to sell him.

Prior to his move to Lyon, a number of Premier League teams had shown strong interest in him.
