Former Liverpool midfielder to join Santi Cazorla’s Real Oviedo

Since their promotion from the playoffs, Real Oviedo have been actively working in the transfer market to successfully return to La Liga. After 24 years away from La Liga, Real Oviedo will welcome one of the most intense atmospheres in La Liga at the new Carlos Stadière Stadium.
The highlight that all Oviedo fans are looking forward to is the renewal of Santi Cazorla’s contract. The 40-year-old confirmed that he will realize his dream of returning to La Liga with his boyhood club. Previously, he has brought in Luka Ilic, Ilias Chaira (loan period turned permanent), Alberto Reina, Brandon Domingos, Horatiu Moldovan and Salomon Rondon, who returned to Spain after 13 years with Malaga to play alongside Cazorla.
Real Oviedo trials former Liverpool midfielder
On Monday, Oviedo announced that it will trial former Liverpool midfielder Ovie Ejaria. The former England youth international has been out of action since 2022 due to a knee injury. The 27-year-old midfielder, who can play on the left and in the middle, officially terminated his contract with Reading in January 2024.
How did Ovie Ejaria get here?
He came from Liverpool’s youth academy and was once one of Anfield’s most promising players and was loaned to Sunderland and Rangers. After two loan spells at Reading, Real Oviedo spent 3.9 million euros to sign Ejaria in 2020.
This period was perhaps the best of his career, which may explain why he chose to try out in Oviedo. Current Oviedo coach Veliko Paunovic is familiar with Ejaria, as they spent 18 months together at the Madejski Stadium, during which Ejaria played 53 games under the Serbian player, scoring 5 goals and providing 5 assists.
