2025 Carabao Cup final Liverpool vs Newcastle player ratings

Here are the player ratings as Newcastle United won the 2025 Carabao Cup with a 2-1 victory over Premier League leaders Liverpool.

Liverpool player ratings
Goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher, 7.5

Two stunning reaction saves kept Liverpool in the game, although he might have prevented them from opening the scoring had he realised that Dan Burn could only get enough power by heading the ball to the far post. He should start to move closer to the far post, but these are little things he will learn with experience.

LB Andrew Robertson, 6.0
CB Ibrahima Konate, 7.0

He made some nice tackles and defended quite well, but he was ultimately sacrificed as Arne Slaughter needed a goal and Newcastle United were 2-0 up at the 60th minute.

Centre-back Virgil van Dijk, 7.5

After Konate exited the game, he seemed to defend everyone, arguing that Van Dijk did not deserve to lose 2-1.

RB Jarell Quansah, 5.5

It goes without saying that Trent Alexander-Arnold is sorely missed.

CM Alexis Mac Allister, 4.0

He did nothing the entire game but chase shadows around midfield until he was mercifully replaced by the more aggressive Cody Gakpo.

CM Ryan Gravenberch, 5.0

The defense worked hard but the ball control was poor. Despite passing from deeper positions than anyone else, he only completed 81% of his passes and made no real progress or creation in attack.

AM Dominik Szoboszlai, 4.0

Made almost no contribution for Liverpool. Dominik Szoboszlai is currently riding on his reputation, performing listlessly in big games and completely letting the team down. He was even better in the Bundesliga.

LW Luis Diaz, 6.5

He is one of the few capable outfield players in the Liverpool team and does not deserve to be substituted off. With Mohamed Salah isolated on the right and lacking involvement, he had to take on the work of two wingers.

Right wing Mohamed Salah, 2.0

Invisible. Liverpool will probably play with 10 men too. It was a ghostly performance for a player who is having a stunning season in the Premier League.

ST Diogo Jota, 4.5

The performances from this player have been disappointing and he often seemed invisible in important matches. He needs to start focusing more on scoring goals and less on tricks.

Newcastle player ratings
Goalkeeper Nick Pope, 7.0

He deservedly earned a clean sheet with a positive, confident goalkeeping display – although he ultimately lost out to Federico Chiesa.

LB Tino Livramento, 6.0
CB Dan Bowen, 7.5

Scored first with a very nice, powerful header and never had any trouble defensively.

Centre-back Fabian Schar, 7.5

Although he struggled with the ball at times, he was just as good as Virgil van Dijk in attack.

RB Kieran Trippier, 7.0

Made great efforts to win the ball on the defensive end and pushed the team forward on the offensive end. Let’s be honest, Kieran Trippier deserves more respect as a footballer.

CM Joelinton, 7.5

The battle in the midfield was unmatched. He was one of the unsung heroes of Newcastle United’s triumph in the Carabao Cup final.

Midfielder Sandro Tonali, 6.5

Despite the injuries, Tonali still tried his best on the defensive end. As the core of Newcastle’s midfield, he showed true leadership.

Midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, 7.0

His performance on both ends of the court was too comprehensive to be ignored, but his passing errors ruined the overall effect of the game.

LW Harvey Barnes, 6.0

A good performance in creating a chance for his team-mates in the final moments, but if his return pass to Isak had been more accurate, we’d say it was a 3-0 win for Newcastle United.

ST Alexander Isaac, 7.0

He avenged that with a brilliant first-time effort to make it 2-0, and soon after, he nearly scored a brace. Imagine how much better Alexander Isak could have been if he had been able to pass the ball more accurately.

RW Jacob Murphy, 7.5

Grabbed an assist and was never afraid to receive the ball, shoot, and create chances for teammates in the final third of the game. Murphy is an underrated, all-rounder for Newcastle and deserves praise for his positive defensive performance.
