Liverpool will be able to sign Martin Zubimendi, but on one condition

Liverpool have yet to make any new signings this summer but have recently shown an interest in signing Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad.
According to The Athletic, Real Sociedad expect the Reds to reach an agreement with the midfielder, but it is unclear whether his £51.7 million release clause will be met or if a lower price will be negotiated.
However, Real Sociedad are prepared to sack the 25-year-old under one condition.
The Athletic adds that he must clarify his intentions to move to Liverpool, in which case Real Sociedad will not stop him, although the player has not informed the club of his future decision.
If he joins the Merseyside outfit, Zubimendi would become the first player to leave Real Sociedad for Liverpool since Xabi Alonso and the first time Arne Slott has joined Jurgen Klopp Lopp’s replacement.
Liverpool need a defensive midfielder
Liverpool have recently let the likes of Georginio Wijnaldum, Jordan Henderson, Fabinho and Thiago Alcantara leave the club without signing a deep-lying midfielder.
Alexis Mac Allister has been used as a number six, although this has limited his creativity. For the Red Army entering the new season, buying a new defensive midfielder is imperative.
Even if Zubimendi’s release clause reaches £52m, he would be a fantastic signing. The Spaniard will ensure that Liverpool solve the midfield void in the long term.
He has been part of Real Sociedad’s first-team squad for five years and has recently become a regular for the Spanish national team, even featuring in this summer’s Euro 2024 victory in Germany.
The player has been compared to Sergio Busquets due to his outstanding composure and ability on the ball in deep areas, so Liverpool should be confident they have signed a world-class player.
The decision regarding his future now lies squarely in Zubimendi’s hands and he will need to submit a transfer request to Real Sociedad if he is keen on a move to Anfield. After that, transfers are likely to reach their peak soon.
