Manchester City will renew contract with Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford this summer, The Athletic reported recently. It is reported that the Manchester giants will bring the English goalkeeper back to the Etihad Stadium in the offseason.

Trafford’s outstanding performance in the Championship

Trafford has recently performed well at Turf Moor to help Burnley return to the Premier League. The 22-year-old played 45 times for the Lancashire club last season, conceded 16 goals and kept 29 clean sheets across all fronts.

The English talent was the best goalkeeper in the Championship last season. In the English Football League Two, he had a pass completion rate of 73.3% and his ball distribution was also quite good.

His current contract with Burnley will expire in the summer of 2027, which may make it difficult for Manchester City to sign him cheaply in this transfer window.

Is re-signing Trafford a wise decision for Manchester City manager Guardiola?

Trafford can be a reliable option in the back line as he is quick and has made some wonderful saves for the team. He does not mind clearing the defense when necessary and has good ball control skills.

The English goalkeeper has a lot of experience in English football. However, if Manchester City succeeds in signing him this offseason, there are concerns about whether he can maintain his good form in the Premier League.

We can expect Trafford to inject more excellent players into Guardiola’s back line. He is fully capable of earning a regular first-team spot in the Manchester club next season.

Trafford can also be a good replacement for Ederson in Manchester City. The 22-year-old English goalkeeper has a bright future as long as he can continue to improve every season. Therefore, it seems that it is a good choice for Manchester City to re-sign Trafford before the close of this transfer window. All in all, Guardiola should consider signing a goalkeeper of his strength as he can help the Manchester club win many important trophies in the future.
