Manchester United still in talks to sign Manuel Ugarte this summer

The Red Devils are eager to sign a new defensive midfielder this window following Casemiro’s poor performance last season. It is widely reported that they have identified the Uruguayan as a priority target and have agreed personal terms with him.
However, David Ornstein recently reported that United have decided to end their pursuit of the South American and turn their attention to other options after failing to agree a transfer fee with the Parisians.
Players such as Sander Berg and Youssef Fofana have been mentioned as potential targets for the Red Devils, with Erik ten Hag’s side said to have held talks with them over potential moves this summer.
However, Plettenberg writes on X Now that while United have held talks with other options, they have not given up hope of buying Ugarte.
Ugarte to Manchester United
The journalist also claimed that the midfielder is keen to join the Premier League champions, so his agent Jorge Mendes is working hard to fulfill his client’s wishes.
Plettenberg also claims that United are still “in talks” with PSG to agree a deal to sign the player permanently before the end of this window.
Plettenberg wrote:
“I hear Manchester United and PSG are still negotiating a permanent deal for Manuel Ugarte!
“Ugarte wants to join Manchester United. Key agent Jorge Mendes wants to complete a deal with Manchester United. With Manchester United exploring more options in the midfield, a Ugarte deal is not 100% guaranteed at this stage.”
PSG are said to not want to let Ugarte leave for less than £51m, but United are unwilling to match that price. Therefore, both clubs will have to make compromises to get the deal done.
It will be interesting to see if the Premier League champions are ultimately able to bolster their midfield with a move for the South American before the end of the window.
