Manchester United will spare no effort to bring in De Jong

The Red Devils have had an impressive transfer window, having already brought in Joshua Zirkzee, Lenny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt and Nussel Mazraoui. A midfielder is United’s next priority, with Sport claiming the club are determined to sign De Jong from Barcelona.

The outlet added that Barcelona were willing to sell him for around £51m, but did not mention whether he would consider a move. Some people believe that the addition of the Dutchman will be the icing on the cake for the Red Devils.

An unlikely deal

De Jong has been linked with the Red Devils for more than two years. He has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford in the summer of 2022. K. Ten Hag reunited.

Manchester United are reportedly considering a new approach to the Dutchman, but the move is less likely to succeed. De Jong has not played an official match since suffering an ankle injury in April. The “world-class” star has not yet conducted any form of training with Barcelona and his current absence is undetermined.

It makes no sense for Manchester United to spend £51m on a player who is on the sidelines. The club needs someone who can have an immediate impact on the course of the new season. On top of that, he earns a staggering £316,000-a-week salary and could demand a rise if he leaves the Catalan giants.

United would be better off focusing on Manuel Ugarte, who has been on their radar for some time. PSG are willing to pay £60m for the 23-year-old but could offer a discount as they have already brought in Joao Neves from Benfica as their number six. The Red Devils should pursue his signature rather than spend big money on the injured De Jong.
