Abdoulaye Doucoure’s contract expires at the end of June and Moyes’ team is in desperate need of a new midfielder. Douglas Luiz has emerged as one of the targets in recent weeks. He has been heavily linked with a return to the Premier League after a disastrous 2024-25 season at Juventus.

Liverpool, West Ham United and Leeds United are among the teams that have expressed interest in Luiz, who left Aston Villa 12 months ago for €50 million. However, Everton have been given a huge boost in the race for the Brazil international.

Douglas Luiz wants to join Everton this summer

According to Gazzetta dello Sport (via Sport Witness), Luiz is pushing for a return to England and has named Everton as his preferred destination. Nottingham Forest and West Ham United are also considered favourites to win the title, but they are currently behind their respective Premier League rivals.

While this is good news for Everton, there is a problem. Everton want to sign Luiz on loan, while Juventus want to attach a buyout clause – it is believed that they want to pay a fee close to the €50m paid last summer.

This is a problem for both Everton and Luiz, and there are now signs that they will seek an acceptable solution in the coming weeks. If an agreement can be reached, it will be a statement of intent from the Toffees as they aim to improve on previous seasons.
