Rangers to bring in Go Ahead Eagles attacking ace

If recent reports from the Daily Chronicle are to be believed, Rangers have reached an agreement with Go Ahead Eagles for Oliver Antman. Rangers are prepared to pay a transfer fee of around £5 million for the winger. According to Dutch sources, the signing of the young striker could be announced in the next 24 to 48 hours.

The 23-year-old Finnish international played for KOPSE, HJK, CF Damm and Legirus Inter in his youth, and also played for Tips and Gnistan in the Finnish lower leagues. He then moved to Nordsjælland for a transfer fee of €50,000 and has played more than 100 times for the Danish team.

Antman was briefly loaned to Groningen in the second half of the 2022-23 season, but returned to Nordsjælland after the Eredivisie side were relegated. Just over a year later, he returned to the Eredivisie, this time to Go Ahead Eagles, who signed him for €1.5 million last summer.

Why Rangers must get this deal done quickly

Anterman primarily plays as a right winger, but he can also be used as an inside option on the left. It remains to be seen how Martin will deploy Rak-Sakyi if he heads to Northern Ireland, but if the transfer is immediate, the attacking ace will temporarily take the starting spot.

The Ibrox manager was forced to temporarily deploy Kieran Dowell as a winger in the first leg of the Champions League qualifier against the Greek giants. Although Anterman is unable to play in the return leg midweek, Martin should have him available at the weekend when the Bright Blues take on Motherwell for the coveted Scottish title.

What can he bring to Rangers’ attack?

The youngster made an instant impact at Deventer, scoring six goals and providing 16 assists in 36 games in all competitions. He helped Go Ahead Eagles win their first Dutch Cup and now he has moved on again to join Russell Martin’s Rangers.

Antermann likes to keep possession, thereby drawing opponents in and creating space for his teammates in and outside the final third. His movement, dribbling and passing skills must be fully exploited to inject more flair and skill into the front line.

Rangers have already signed Jeddi Gassama, who showed his quality by scoring on his debut against Panathinaikos. Jeserun Rak-Sakyi, who has also been seen as a replacement for Vaclav Cerny, is set to move to Besiktas permanently after just one season with Rangers.
