Real Madrid and Vinicius Junior remain silent on new contract

This time last year, Real Madrid and Vinicius Junior were at the top of world football, hand in hand. The Brazilian had led Real Madrid to their second Champions League trophy in three years and, according to local media reports, looked set to be in contention for the Ballon d’Or. A year on, it seems neither is quite happy with the other.
Vinicius was publicly targeted by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund last summer and met with Saudi officials last season to hear potential offers from the Saudis. Cadena SER reports that while Vinicius has agreed a new contract with Saudi Arabia, he has since demanded the same amount as Kylian Mbappé.
Real Madrid not considering changing terms
The request has not been accepted by Real Madrid. There are no plans to amend the contract they have agreed with the Brazilian and relations between Real Madrid and Vinicius’s agent have cooled. The club currently has no plans to restart negotiations with Vinicius unless his agent reopens them in 2026, when he has 18 months left on his contract. It is understood that only Florentino Perez and Vinicius can resolve the matter face to face.
Real Madrid has a contingency plan
If Vinicius does not give up his current position, Real Madrid appears to have a contingency plan in place. This week it was reported that Real Madrid is already considering making a good offer for Vinicius, and Perez has considered pursuing Haaland if he leaves the club.
Vinicius under pressure?
These reports are likely an attempt by the club to pass pressure on Vinicius to force him to sign a contract extension. As time goes on, the Brazilian can expect the local media to continue to put pressure on him, especially if his form does not improve from the end of last season.
