Real Madrid must be increasingly concerned about their players’ propensity for long-term injuries, with another centre-back falling victim to a horrific ACL injury.

Youngster Joan Martinez is starting to show some real excitement this summer after taking part in Real Madrid’s pre-season tour of the United States. He has also impressed against AC Milan, Barcelona and Chelsea and his future looks very bright, with Carlo Ancelotti claiming he has what it takes to succeed at Real Madrid everything.

Tragedy struck again, however, as Martinez went down with an ACL injury during Friday’s practice. Diario AS reports that he will undergo surgery in the coming days and is expected to miss the next six to seven months.

This is their second injury of pre-season after Ezequiel Palacios was injured against Milan and their fifth in a year. Ed Militao and Thibaut Courtois have returned, but David Alaba is still recovering from injury and is expected to miss the best part of the year.
