Tottenham Hotspur Joins Race for Rennes Forward Arnaud Calimondo

The 23-year-old, a Paris Saint-Germain player, struggled to secure a starting spot due to the presence of several veteran players in the first team.

He spent four seasons on loan at Lens, establishing himself there. In 2022, Calimondo permanently moved to Rennes, where he excelled and earned six caps for the France national team under Didier Deschamps.

Last season, he impressed for Rennes, scoring 18 goals in all competitions, leading to interest from several top European clubs, including Tottenham.

According to Tuttosport, Tottenham Hotspur has entered the race to sign Calimondo this summer, as Thomas Frank looks to strengthen his attacking XI ahead of next season.

The France international has reportedly been granted permission to move “in the coming days,” with Tottenham set to compete with La Liga side Villarreal for his transfer rights.

However, the report adds that Rennes has no intention of letting this valuable player leave on the cheap and will demand a transfer fee of up to £34 million. The French side are already scouting for a potential replacement if Callumion leaves the club.

Prolific Forward

Thomas Frank’s emphasis on pace, fluidity, and off-the-ball movement in the final third makes Callumionion a potentially astute tactical addition.

His ability to tear apart opposing defenses with direct runs and vertical threats perfectly aligns with Tottenham’s up-tempo style.

While the 23-year-old isn’t the most creative in terms of chance creation, he is a dynamic forward – with the likes of James Maddison and new signing Mehmet Qudous creating goalscoring opportunities in midfield and out wide – and his keen instincts in front of goal could prove particularly effective in north London.

With Richarlison’s future uncertain, Callumionionion is not only a sensible replacement but also an equally effective center-forward option, similar to Dominic Solanke.
