West Ham close to Jean-Claire Todibo after Juventus deal snatched away

West Ham United have made huge strides in the transfer market and have no hesitation in vying for the signature of some of Europe’s biggest clubs.
Their bold approach has paid off, with the recent acquisition of Niklas Fellkruger from Borussia Dortmund. The Hammers could break the hearts of another European giant as they close in on snatching Juventus’ move for Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo.
West Ham boss Tim Stetten has traveled to France to complete the Frenchman’s move and has agreed a fee of £34m plus add-ons with Nice, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The transfer insider added that Juventus have been in talks for Todibo for “several weeks” but have yet to receive “approval” from Nice. Romano added that West Ham hope to complete the transfer almost immediately by having the player undergo a medical.
Another star joins West Ham United’s summer signings
West Ham United captain Kurt Zouma is set to join Saudi Arabian side Al-Shabaab. It was understood that the void he left was one that needed to be filled, with West Ham reacting quickly to sign Todibo, who was even on the radar of Manchester United earlier this summer.
The former Barcelona defender has become one of Nice’s most important players in recent years and was a key member of the team’s fifth-place finish in Ligue 1 last season.
West Ham United’s signing of the 24-year-old was certainly a surprise, but Julen Lopetegui will be impressed with the ambition and urgency his employers have shown in getting a deal for the defender completed.
With the club’s Premier League opener still some time away, Todibo is likely to make his London Stadium debut in next week’s first-round tie against Aston Villa.
The financial details of West Ham’s deal for Todibo are unclear, but agreeing personal terms remains a crucial step before the signing can be officially confirmed.
