West Ham United considering move for Newcastle United’s Kieran Trippier

With the transfer window coming to an end, West Ham United have been one of the busiest teams in the Premier League, signing Crissencio Somerville, Max Kilman, Luis Guilherme, Guillory Players such as Do Rodriguez and Nicholas Falkrug.
Lopetegui has spent a lot of money in the market and he will be under huge pressure to deliver the goods, and the Spaniard is not done yet as he plans to sign a right-back before the start of the season.
Kieran Trippier is the latest name on the club’s radar, with the Hammers “stepping up attempts” to sign a right-back to add to Vladimir Coufal’s offer, according to The Telegraph compete.
Coufal made 36 appearances in the Premier League last season and, as he is now in his 30s, Lopetegui will be looking to increase games and ensure the right-back remains fit.
The Londoners have also been linked with Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Kyle Walker-Peters. The report adds that the duo are “highly regarded” despite their failure to execute deals for either player.
Trippier is in the final year of his contract at Newcastle United and has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia.
Considering he is 33 and in the final year of his contract, he is worth just £8.5m on Transfermarkt. If they were to sign him, West Ham could negotiate a lower price with Newcastle.
Trippier is not the solution to West Ham’s right-back problems
One of the reasons Lopetegui wants to bring in a new right-back at West Ham United is to ensure there is a long-term replacement for Coufal in the squad. Trippier is two years older than the Czech defender, which goes against the club’s main logic of wanting to sign a right-back.
Even if he comes cheap, the England international won’t be available for more than a year or two, which would force the Hammers to consider a move for another full-back.
Wan-Bissaka and Walker-Peters are still in their 20s, with the best years of their careers ahead of them. So, despite being slightly more expensive, they will be a better signing in the long run.
West Ham United’s first game of the 2024/25 Premier League season will be against Aston Villa on August 17, and it will be interesting to see whether any new full-backs join the club by then.
